Your Reality Is Happening Now

· OnPassive,GoFounders,Leadership,Entrepreneur

When we talk about reality, we are referring to the actual things happening in your life. However, this is a bit complex issue as some may fail to distinguish between actual things and their perceived reality, that is, what they think is reality even when it is not. You might be wondering what the big deal is about what is real and what is not, or our perceptions of what our reality is. Most of what we do daily is shaped by what we believe is real in our lives and what we imagine can be our reality now and in the future. What we think of as our reality determines how we live now and how we plan for the future.

Therefore, it is crucial for us to carefully and earnestly consider what our reality is if we are to live a meaningful life. As you go through this process, it is also imperative to be able to tell reality from perceived reality. The reason is that understanding your reality is the foundational step to fixing up your life and setting goals that will help build your future. If the foundation is shaky, everything built upon it is like to fall at some point. If we are unable to identify unreal things that we have come to believe as real, our lives will be built on lies.

Why we fail to embrace our reality

There is a lot that can be gained from embracing our reality. That includes an improved quality of life, enjoying the fruits of our hard or smart work, reduced stress, improved relationships, clearer, and more focused thinking, boosting confidence, and improving resilience among other things.

However, we fail to embrace our now because we sometimes spend too much time thinking about and looking for a better life. We want to be happy and try to imagine what life will be for us in the future when we have taken care of what is seemingly holding us back now. Most people, if not everyone, are obsessed with the idea of working hard now to a point of failing to enjoy the present just so they can 'have the future they dream of'.

While it is good to dream that big and want beautiful things for oneself, most people do not realize how much they are losing or missing out on because of keeping some parts of their lives for the future. That way, everything else that is not linked to the dream suffers. We seem to forget that we will not get a chance to relive lost moments and that the future is not guaranteed but the present has been handed to us already. Our future is affected by how we live and celebrate our reality now. Our present reality helps with proper goal setting and ensuring a balance between all important aspects of our lives including financial plans, relationships, family, and mental health.

The other reason we fail to embrace our now is that we invest our time and energy in regretting what happened yesterday, trying to make up for what we lost, and fighting for things we shouldn't even be holding on to. Thinking of the past is the worst of all reasons there can ever be. While our dreams about the future in a way keep us going forward, the past often holds us back although it can also inspire us to do better for ourselves. Some have been through unpleasant experiences that took away their confidence and instilled fear in them. Instead of finding ways to heal and improve their lives, some hide and make excuses for not doing much to change the present. Such people need to be aware of their now. Their current reality is not that they are being bullied or abused. It is that they are surviving victims who haven't done much or received enough help to be able to enjoy the present without replaying the past. Your reality is not what happened yesterday or what will happen tomorrow. The past is history and the future is just a dream.

Also, we sometimes get stuck in our imaginary world and/or perceived reality and disconnect from our true reality. This is due to living way ahead of our reality (for example, living from what we have not yet acquired or what we cannot afford in the present), peer and social pressures, and creating our own world in our minds as a way of trying to escape the actual things happening around us. We can be so caught up in the virtual world and trying to fit in with our peers while also trying to maintain a fake lifestyle regardless of what it costs us. However, there might come a point in life when we cannot keep up and life demands that we face our reality. Still then, we will have no choice but to start where we are. Often, we also find ourselves regretting having wasted time and wishing we had been wise enough to live in the moment and start building from what we actually had. If you find yourself here, try to remember again that what is in the past cannot be changed but you can take advantage of what your present reality has to offer.

Forget the past (but remember the lessons), live your reality, and use your present to build a holistic foundation for the future. If you mess up your present, it might come back as the past to haunt you in future. Maintain a healthy balance.
