Why You Need To Focus On Your Dreams Now

· Leadership

I was a child once and my dreams were big. I wanted to take on the world and leave a unique footprint on the earth for many to look at, marvel at, and aspire to follow. I was sure that in the future I would be someone great, I would be that individual who excelled in every aspect of life. My definition of success was broad; a thriving career, being business savvy, and therefore building my very own large corporation, doing philanthropic work, and juggling all that with a happy family. One thing kept me from doing anything about this dream though, it was too far into the future. I needed to enjoy my childhood so I shelved it up.

I became a teenager and my dream remained pretty much the same but with minor adjustments. At this point, I was beginning to date so my dream now covered the kind of woman I wanted to share this exciting life with. Traveling the world began to look so attractive to my imaginative mind therefore I amended the dream to include that. One thing was key though at this point in my life; I needed to concentrate on my studies in order to pass with flying colors and be accepted into a good college. Just like in the previous stage I carefully packed my dream to be opened up at a more convenient time.

Pass I did and when that happened I was happy, finally, I could leave home and learn to be independent plus I was getting closer to my dream. I was older and so it made sense that I begin working on attaining that business knowledge according to my aspiration. It was time I made enough money to become a philanthropist. The intensity of my studies by then however did not allow for many pursuits of extra activities. I was swamped so day in day out I buried my nose in the book and went to sleep exhausted. The dream, well you guessed it: it was placed on the shelf again.

Then one fine day I woke up and I was older. I still wanted a lovely balanced family life, an organization with my name on it, and excess cash flow to donate to worthy causes. My career at least had taken off though not to the heights I anticipated back then. On that day I realized something, it became so clear to me that a life of glitter someday somehow was a mirage. The world doesn’t seem to care what one wants and so will never just honor it without a fight from the dream owner. It is possible to start off well as a big dreamer but end up a tale-teller.

Does this sequence of events sound familiar to you? It is not surprising if you have heard from someone full of regrets about how they wasted their time lancing their dreams into the future and hoping to meet them there when they would be better prepared to take them on. You may have seen it in your own life as well. It is common for us to dream of that desired future for so long that we forget that it is up to us to begin it now.

Time moves so fast, a minute ago when you read the last two paragraphs of this story are already considered history. Why then should you think that the future means many years from now? The future is closer to now than you anticipate. What kind of person then should you be? The kind that never needs preparation to step into the future of their dreams. You need to be the kind of person that is awake. Be a go-getter that does things in the now.

Procrastination is the thief of success. Don't lance your happiness forward, embrace it today. Do not say that when everything is perfect you will begin because it never will be. Time waits for no one. Nature itself reminds us of this as we see the seasons change according to their time. Whether or not your ground is prepared and the seed planted, when time is due for the rain it falls.

While it is still called today, do something. Take a step into the life you desire. Write that email and send it, let them reject you if they don't think you are qualified but guess what you will learn one or two things from that experience. You will learn what you need to have in order to be accepted next time. Now go on and get that information or experience so that next time the email will come bearing good news.

This life is for you to live fully. You were not made just to exist. You were created to exhibit your uniqueness in order to impact the world and others in the most phenomenal way that only you can. Do it and be sure to do it today.

Peace, Love & Prosperity!
