Make The Most Of Your Now

· Leadership,Entrepreneur

Procrastination is the thief of time.

One thing that we are good at as humans is procrastination. We are good at putting off our plans. We put off going on holiday, asking for a raise, having difficult conversations, and so on. Lately, we have developed the art of procrastinating living.

Instead of doing things in the moment, we put them off to some uncertain future and this robs us of all the greatness we can accomplish. Before we know it we are older and incapable. This is why many live and die with regrets.

To leave a sizable imprint in the lives of those around us, we must make the most of the time and opportunities we are afforded every day.

If you have a dream to build something meaningful, do not wait until you feel ready because that might never happen.

Make hay while the sun still shines.

You may never be able to fully gather the resources you need to kick start your project. Start anyway. Start where you are and with what you have and build something from there. There is no time like the present to get started on your dreams.

One of the greatest myths that makes it easier to procrastinate is that we have lots of time on our hands. When we are younger, we plan for a future that seems too distant until it arrives and passes with us nowhere near to achieving our goals. This trend continues as we make resolutions every New Year and quit because we believe there is always time to start again next year. We put off exercise and healthy living and plan to try again next year and the one after that. Then we wake up one day and we are old and unable to do the things we were supposed to because we lack the energy and the ability. What follows next is a litany of regrets about what we should have done whilst we had the chance to do so.

We must make the most of the present to do all we can to secure a meaningful future.

Making the most of your now.

Treat every day like a gift.

Tomorrow is not a guarantee. We like to believe that we are invincible but the reality is we do not know how life will turn out. The fact is bad things can still happen to you, no matter how good you are. If there is a guarantee that you will be able to do what you want if you put your all into it, why should you wait?

Be thankful for every day you get to be alive. Pursue your dreams with passion as though tomorrow will not come. When you do so you will make each moment count. Take advantage of the energy you have in the moment. It will impact your future and the future of generations to come.

Embrace every opportunity.

When a great opportunity comes your way, grab it quickly and with both hands. It may not come your way again. Ask older people around you and they will tell you that their biggest regret is letting life-changing opportunities slip through their fingers because they felt they were not ready. You never know what impact such opportunities will have on you and those to come after you if only you are brave enough to embrace them.

Be fully present.

Sometimes, the reason why our relationships and our endeavors fail is that we do not give our full attention to the people and opportunities around us. With so many distractions around, we fail to be fully present in the moment. We pay more attention to small details, missing the bigger picture which results in us losing momentum in pursuing what we want.

Take away the distractions and you are likely to be more aware of what you need to do to ensure that each day counts for something. Take time to listen to those in your circle and be there for them because you never know if you will have another opportunity to be around them and learn from them again.

Plan for the future while living in the present.

Making the most of the present moments does not mean you discard your dreams for the future. You can still plan your way into tomorrow and map out your long-term goals while enjoying your present.

It would be reckless to choose to ignore your responsibilities in the name of living for today. If you have an exam coming up, study for it diligently while taking moments to appreciate your friends and family and the many blessings around you. When you have an important meeting or job interview, prepare for it. The trick is finding a balance between planning for your future and fully enjoying your present. You do not want to spend all your days looking out to the future while missing out on the great things happening in the moment.

If you have great things you want to accomplish whilst you are still alive, you must make the most of the time and the energy you have today. Do not put off your happiness for another day. Do not stand by and watch as others go for their dreams. Grab hold of the opportunities that you come across. Each day that we wake up is like a second chance to do things right. It is like a blank slate that we get to fill. Choose to fill each day with love, gratitude, kindness, and hard work. Accomplish great feats and make a positive impact on those around you. Choose to make the most of your now.
